The project "Gilia for all" is conceived with the purpose to make available the whole lagoon environment, rich in history and biodiversity, in order to protect it and, at the same time, to let people become familiar with it. Inside it, there are indeed several paths located in different sides, where guided by information panels let discover the many aspects of that environment: path “Stagno di Capoterra”, where the geological trail leads to discover the mountain formations of the natural reserve of Mount Arcosu, meanwhile you can do bird-watching, or physical activities such as Nordic walking; path “Cabunastasiu”, where Nordic walking paths, different in length and difficulty, lead to the discovery of bird life and vegetation, old piers and boats; path “Foce del fiume Santa Lucia”, where discover the environment of river and lake; path “Giliacquas”, to discover the world of fishing; path “Poggio dei Pini” that thanks to his vantage point allow to observe the entire park. 
The area in front of us, about 15,000 ha, is one of the most important wetlands in Europe, declared SPA (special protection area) by the EU and Wetland of International Importance under the Ramsar Convention. The area belongs to the municipalities of Elmas, Assemini, Cagliari and Capoterra. This area is separated from the sea only by a strip of land interrupted in few points where, during the high tides, the salt water of the sea mingle with the fresh waters of rivers.
This environment includes: the lagoon, connected to the Gulf of Cagliari through the bridge and Canal of “Sa Scafa”; the mouth of the most important southern Sardinian river, Flumini Mannu, which has its source in the hills of Sarcidano, the mouth of river Cixerri, which flows from the Northern of Sulcis; other smaller rivers; the salt-works marshes, including evaporating pans; the pond of Capoterra, which is the most southern part of this large lagoon and coastal ponds, fed by the Rio Santa Lucia.
