The area of Giliacquas, quite recently, it has been decorated with murales. A murales, which is a Spanish word used also in Italian, is a painting made on a wall, ceiling or other large permanent masonry surface. These murals show different scenes of everyday life, from the wheat harvest to fishing, recalling that this place was for centuries very rich thanks to the generous nature.
Elmas, as shown on the murals, was born on the banks of the Santa Gilla lagoon as a village of fishermen and farmers. The first records date back to the period pre-nuragical and the first settlement was located in this area. Every year, in September, it is celebrated the feast of the Laguna in order to remind the richness of this place that saw the birth of Elmas and its thriving activities.
