In the past, fishermen used to place removable fishing weir along the communication channels. Currently they use the lavorieri, which are made with wooden poles and marsh reeds intertwined, real fishing gear consisting of a double barrier V-shaped, placed with the vertex towards the sea and the sides against the riverbanks, positioned in the mouth of the channel. This technique allows the return of the juvenile fishes but entraps adults which seek to migrate for reproduction.
Another traditionally instruments used for fishing are the fish pots among which there are bertovelli. Ideal trap for eels and perch, they are creels with conical shape in which the net is mounted on wheels, which, a long time ago, were made of wood. Inside the main net there are rooms, cone-shaped with very narrow entrance at the top that allows the fish to go only to the inside part until the end of the bag, called "death chamber", where they are trapped because they cannot turning back.
The pelagic longline is instead composed of numerous hooks connected to a main line, called "trave" (the beam). In order to determine and stabilize the position of the column of the longline in the water several buoys and weights are fixed at regular distances on the main line .The longline can be fixed, lowered near the bottom and anchored, or lowered into the water and left to drift.
