The meaning of the term "birdwatching" is " identify wild birds and observe their actions and habits in their natural habitat". It is something more than a simple hobby: it allows us to stay in close contact with nature and observe animals, which without a human intelligence or technology, are able to fly. Do birdwatching in the Park "Gilia for All" means to discover a new world behind the house, to develop attention, curiosity, sense of observation, and for photographers it is the perfect place where test themselves and subsequently share their passion on social networks with millions of followers around the world. Step by step, you will discover many aspects, with infinite number of details which will be lifelong useful in every corner of the world.
The lagoon environment is an ideal habitat for many species of birds, which come here to wintering or nesting, finding favourable conditions. The environment is particularly suitable for water-birds that it will not be difficult to observe herons, cormorants, seagulls, ducks and pink flamingos. Pink flamingos is the largest among all this birds, which nest here since 1999 reaching, in recent years, over 8000 couples.
Equipped of spyglass, it is possible to see that birds have a coloured ring with imprinted a code. These codes give information about the year and place of birth which are useful to trace the route of made by the birds during their lives, their longevity, their migrations
Along the birdwatching path, the panels will give details regarding birds present in the area, showing and describing some of the most relevant ones, referring to the national and Community context. Many of these birds, thought to be at risk of extinction, choose these places for nesting and wintering. It will be easy to observe them, some of them even without spyglass, since their large size. You will easily get in touch with this natural environment, where you can listen to the sounds of the birds and observe their behavior of feeding or their flight. In order to best practice this activity it is advised to wear appropriate clothing, avoiding the bright colours. Avoid to make noise and walk slowly: birds are very wary animals. To better track them and listen to their sounds, make a stop for a while, allowing them to get used to your presence. To easier identify the numerous species it is advised to check on the identification guides. To distinguish them it is therefore important to focus on their shape, size and behaviour. Do not forget that also their bills, wings, plumages, tails, may be distinguishing feature for a specie.
