The purple heron (Ardea purpurea) is a quite large wading bird, but slightly smaller than grey heron. It is distinguishable by its long brown neck retracted (S-shaped) with a black streak; the top of the head is black. In late April and early May, it nests in small groups, with other Herons. It builds its nest in the reeds or between other plants of the zones. It is active at dusk and dawn.
