The Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) is characterized by a marked sexual dimorphism: the breeding male mallard (drakes) is unmistakable, with a glossy bottle-green head and the purple-tinged brown breast, while the females have mainly brown-speckled plumage strongly similar to the male during the no-breeding period. The eye is light brown, green-yellow beak and feet bright orange.
