The cattle Egret (Bubulcus ibis) is about 30 cm high, with white plumage, short neck, yellow bill and greyish-yellow legs. During the breeding season, adults develop orange-buff plumes on the back, breast and crown; the bill and legs become bright red. It feeds on fish, amphibians and aquatic invertebrates but often follows herds to rest on their back and feed on parasites. It nests with other herons.
